First annual CHIME Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award

Judy Faulkner, President and CEO of Epic, was honored at CHIME's 2005 Fall CIO Forum with the first ever CHIME Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award was created to serve three purposes. First, to provide peer and industry recognition for the contributions the individual recipients and their organizations have made to the healthcare industry and/or the CHIME Foundation. Secondly, to provide a forum in which CHIME members can share examples of outstanding leadership and integrity. And finally, the award serves to recognize new and creative applications of technology and management principles to further the healthcare information technology industry.

Judy founded Epic in 1979, since which time she and the company have focused on providing high quality software and attentive service to all customers. The CHIME Foundation commented that "Judy's efforts have set a standard that has helped move the entire industry forward."

CHIME Collaboration Award, 2004

Thomas W. Smith, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare's chief information officer, and Brian Berres, implementation manager for Epic, were awarded with the prestigious CHIME Collaboration Award from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. The award honors the close working relationship that enabled ENH to install a successful electronic patient record at its three hospitals and 65 outpatient offices in three years.

The Collaboration Award recognizes the best collaborative effort as evidenced in a document co-authored by a CHIME Foundation firm and a CHIME member. The criteria demanded that the winning co-authored paper must have value for the healthcare IT/IS arena in terms of both the collaborative effort and the overall topic.

The winning entry was entitled "Transforming Healthcare, Together." Smith and Epic worked closely together to determine the proper workflows and to build, test, and install a paperless EMR for the organization's three hospitals and 500 physicians. They jointly developed and modified a rapid rollout schedule, engaged clinicians, built confidence in the reliability of the system, developed and installed two new software modules and developed a flexible system for go-live support.
