Epicenter is the patient-centric information backbone for all Epic's software—capturing all clinical, financial and operational data related to a patient and organizing it into a consistent record accessible to users across the care continuum. It is the key connectivity point that supports cross-functional workflows, centralized decision support and eliminates interfaces.
A foundational component of Epicenter is the open Chronicles Extended Relational Database Management System, the high-performance data engine at the heart of our integrated product suite. Chronicles has no built-in capacity limits. It supports thousands of concurrent users and millions of records while still providing excellent response times.
Chronicles drives Epic's outstanding response times and scalability, giving us the edge in serving the largest, most complex healthcare organizations.
Identity EMPI keeps your database clean by eliminating duplicate records and by actively preventing users from creating them in the first place. Uniting demographic, registration, and encounter data from all of your Epic and non-Epic systems, Identity compares a broad sample of identifying information to evaluate patient records. It then applies multiple logical comparisons that account for misspellings, typos, nicknames, names that sound alike, and even maiden names. Streamlined utilities make it easy to merge records when duplicates are found and to unmerge patient records when necessary.
Identity can organize IDs from external systems, allowing you to cross-reference patient records and access them using their medical record numbers from external or legacy systems.
Epic's reporting tools help organizations gain a competitive edge in the marketplace, analyzing revenue cycles, clinical outcomes and other key information to identify areas of strength and diagnose potential problems. Since reports are run on clinical, access and financial data from the same repository, you are able to dissect data by diagnosis, procedure, provider, age, sex or other criteria. Epic's reporting system allows analysis and, more importantly, action on the information from all of Epic's systems. In addition, it can be combined with data from other systems to provide a unified reporting data source.
For operational queries that are needed in real time or near real time, Epic offers Analyst. Analyst queries a dedicated reporting shadow server containing a full copy of the production database. Key functionality includes Epic's Reporting Workbench, which gives end users a template-driven GUI system for running on-demand queries and taking immediate action on the patients retrieved by a query, such as adding the patients to a personal electronic roster.
Epic offers Clarity for reports that are generally less time sensitive and typically involve more intensive statistical analysis than operational reports. Clarity uses a separate analytical reporting server and can be employed as a link to a data warehouse, pulling together information from disparate systems into a single reporting database. Epic has developed standard extracts for exporting production data to Oracle or MS SQL Server, allowing you to use familiar third-party report writers to analyze Epic data. Clarity reports developed by Epic and Epic clients are available from a web-based Community Library.
